At ACHIEVEBLUE we believe it is just as important for us to give back to our community as it is for us to grow our business. Some of the ways in which we have contributed to our partners is leveraging our knowledge and experitise to assisst in the development of their leaders, managers and team members.
"BBBSC believes every child should have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential, both as individuals and citizens – that by doing so, they will not only do well, they will also do good."
And at ACHIEVEBLUE we agree completely. It is with this in mind that we have been priviliaged to work with the BBBSC National Leadership and their team members to help develop a constructive culture to ensure that everyone is focused on driving the BBBSC values and goals.
Our Presdident Mona Mitchell is also a National Board Director and Chair of the National Leardership Committee focused on developing great leaders at BBBSC. Mona also sits on the Council of Champions to support the BBBSC team with insights and support on key initiatives.
In honour of Jessica’s dear friend, Shirley Case, who was killed in Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2008, family and friends built the first Shirley Case School in Monte Olivo, Nicaragua. Shirley Case was a Canadian aid worker who had travelled and worked extensively around the world to help those in need. By the age of 30 when she was tragically taken from us, she had worked in Central America, Africa and Southeast Asia on various humanitarian projects.
Jessica Chaikowsky, VP Business Development decided to partner with a small grassroots organization headquartered close to her home town in the Ottawa Valley. SchoolBOX is doing incredible work in making education possible in Central America and helped over 12,000 children in 2011 alone. SchoolBOX has a sustainable model and builds schools with and for the community. Jessica was able to observe this first-hand during her 3 trips to Monte Olivo in 2011 and in May 2012 as well. All amazing experiences with life lessons in the power of community, education, and inspired leadership!
|Completed in July 2011, Jessica has decided to continue the effort and with the support of family, friends and an engaged donor community and is currently working on building the 2nd Shirley Case School in Leon, Nicaragua.|
In order to focus some of her volunteer efforts locally, ACHIEVEBLUE's VP Business Development Jessica Chaikowsky has become an initiative chair for the newly formed charity and volunteering body of Verity, the professional women’s club in downtown Toronto. In giving club members the opportunity to share time and talent, veritylink is also providing access to the knowledge and experience of the members to the Regent Park community. Freely accessible workshops are delivered monthly on topics such as financial acumen, advanced job search skills, and communication strategies. Jessica also provides mentoring to support women enrolled in the IWIP program (International Women Integration Program) and is thrilled to find the learning is a two-way street!
