ACHIEVEBLUE Executive Team Alignment
The Need
There is a pressing need in the executive development of Canadian leaders. The need is to understand two things. The first, organizational culture is mission critical to achieving the results leaders want. The second, leaders themselves are the primary drivers for creating the superior cultures they desire for the success of their strategic plans. Your organization’s leaders must understand that it is their responsibility to shape and influence the environment within which people approach their work and interact with each other.
Your organization’s operating culture represents the combined impact of attitudes and behaviours of its leaders. There’s no denying leadership’s role in determining how well (or how poorly) a team member performs. The cumulative impact of each leader’s day-to-day actions is what brings success or setbacks. Important questions to be considered are:
-
How are leaders affecting their organization’s performance?
-
Are they having a positive or negative impact on the work and performance of others?
-
Are people encouraged to compete with each other or to cooperate?
-
Are the leaders creating the type of culture that effectively unleashes the potential of your human resources?
- What impact does the leadership team have on the organization’s readiness to deliver on its Vision and Goals?
The Program
To be effective, leaders need to know if what they’re doing (and how they’re doing it) is moving the organization forward. This requires understanding the influence or impact they are having on their direct reports and others. It moves to understanding how this impacts the performance of the team and what needs to change.
The Program includes the following phases:
-
Phase 1: Leadership Impact™, a self-assessment and a questionnaire completed by up to 5 raters
-
Phase 2: Executive Coaching
-
Phase 3: Executive Team Retreat including Peer to Peer Mentoring
- Phase 4: Executive Advisory Forums (6 months later)
Phase 1 and 2: Assessment and Coaching
Leadership Impact: The Senior Leadership Team (all team members) will complete Leadership Impact assessments. To be effective, leaders need to know if what they’re doing (and how they’re doing it) is moving the organization forward. This requires understanding the influence or impact they are having on their direct reports and others. Leadership Impact® includes a self-assessment and a questionnaire completed by up to 5 others. LI is significantly different from traditional 360° assessment tools. It identifies the impact of one’s leadership style on the behaviours and attitudes of staff, rather than the performance and competency assessment of the leader shown by a typical 360. It provides leaders with targeted feedback on their impact – specifically, the leader’s influence on how those around him or her approach their work and interact with others. This informative “window” reveals not only the direction of the leader’s impact, but also its implications for his or her effectiveness, and that of the organizations culture as a whole.
Individual Feedback Session: 90 minute feedback and coaching session of the Leadership Impact results with each leader. This will include discussion on their individual personal development plans.
Phase 3: Executive Team Retreat (2 Days)
PART 1 (1 ½ Day Session)
- Individual debriefs and sharing of their respective Leadership Impact results.
- Implementation of the ACHIEVEBLUE Leadership Program that will include:
- Discussion on the Ideal and Current Culture Profiles
- Current Culture snapshots from the executive team
- Identification of Leadership Strengths and Opportunities for Improvement
- Personal Leadership Promises
- Personal Development Plans
PART 2 (1/2 Day Session)
- A review and conversation of the current strategy and execution plan.
- Team progress report of current strategic initiatives, challenges/opportunities identifying next milestones to be accomplished by the Senior Leadership Team meeting.
- This becomes an important facet of the 2 Day retreat especially after they come through an Executive Promise to change their leadership behaviours and a continued focus on communication and accountability to each other.
- The idea is not to recreate the strategy but rather use the existing strategy in place and begin the dialogue on individual accountability and deliverables as an executive team. This will strengthen the leadership team’s commitment to open communication, trust and respect that has been discussed and will drive the Senior Leadership Team’s ability to execute the strategy.
Phase 4: Executive Advisory Forum (EAF)
The Executive Advisory Forum has been developed to ensure that Strategy, Execution and Leadership Development coincide and reinforce each other. The executive team will come together 4 times during the year, every 3 months following the first three phases. This forum is typically tied into the current Executive Team’s operational and strategic meetings (SLT Meetings). The objective to the EAF is provide an organized team development learning and strategic thinking forum, with regards to the action plan and promise the Executive Team made to itself during the first three phases.
This program is offered in partnership with Presidents of Enterprising Organizaions (PEO) www.peo.net
